Often times the most important part of a discussion is how it begins. I pray that last week’s sermon that began the discussion of God’s plan for The Rock started us on a good note! I called on us to pray, listen to the Holy Spirit, and begin conversation with one another. I started the conversation by presenting three ways God has been speaking to us:

First, for The Rock to remain as we are, a church that is seeking to “Know God, Love People, and Make Disciples.” The discussion focused on how we do this and if God is calling us to make changes. Perhaps changing our location, our service, or something we are not aware of that we can discover through prayer and listening. Second, for The Rock to seek God’s guidance in how we will partner with Paradigm LA in planting The Harbor Covenant Church. We will for sure be involved in supporting this church plant in some way. But we must pray for God’s guidance if we are to actually merge with Paradigm to plant The Harbor. Third, for The Rock to pray about merging with another South Bay church in the future. Recently, a local church, Water’s Edge, merged with 1st Baptist in El Segundo to form a new church, New City. Water’s Edge supplied pastoral staff and people and 1st Baptist supplied their facility to forge a new church. Perhaps God will work in a similar way in the future for The Rock.

I have asked Paul Duncan to help us continue the conversation this week. He will provide a historical perspective of The Rock and look forward to a potential new vision for us. It is important that we let God speak through various trusted people. Come this Sunday to continue the conversation!

Children's Ministry

This week Rock Kids will be digging into the story of God saving Daniel from the lion's den, found in Daniel 6. The kids will learn the Bible point "God won't let us down." Kids have experienced being let down. Even the most well-intentioned adults can sometimes disappoint them. We want to help kids see that God won't ever let them down. It's for this reason that we can be like Daniel and trust God even when there are scary consequences.
