There is a paradox in my life that is mysterious. I know that making material pursuits the ultimate goal of life will come up empty and unsatisfying. Yet, there is a powerful pull to desire material, earthly riches. It does not make sense, but it is a reality for many of us. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus makes it clear that we are to pursue treasures in heaven over treasures on earth. Jesus wants our hearts to be fully given to what is best for us. And what is best for us is for our number one priority and concern to be heavenly things. Specifically, to be pursuing God over all!
This Sunday I will continue in the Sermon on the Mount exploring what treasures on earth consist of and what the treasures in heaven are that we are to pursue. If we truly want the fullness of joy for our lives we will pursue heavenly treasure. We will pursue the very presence of God!
