When we are wronged, we sometimes want to get back at the person who wronged us. It is human nature. All of us can have our buttons pushed to the point of wanting to strike back. It can even feel good. Vengeance can dominate our thought life if we let it. The Jesus way is different. The Jesus way is counter-intuitive. The Jesus way is to love not only our loved ones and neighbors, but also our enemies. The Jesus way is a holy calling. The Jesus way is only doable with the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit.
This Sunday we will hear what Jesus says about loving when we want to retaliate. There is no higher calling than to love. When we love sacrificially, we experience Jesus in a whole new way. It is a calling that is both difficult and beautiful. Let’s gather together and love like Jesus loved as a community of believers!
“But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Matthew 5:39
