We are met with a daily dose of injustice every time we look at the news. This week America was mesmorized by the “Operation Varsity Blues” scandal. The root of the scandal is wealthy parents using unjust, shameful, and illegal use of their money to get their children into elite colleges. The FBI unearthed a scheme involving college administrators, coaches, parents, students, and unscrupulous college advisors cheating the system allowing undeserving students to be admitted instead of deserving students.

As Christians we are called to think well, critically, and biblically regarding injustice in our world.

1) We must understand we live in a fallen, broken world because of sinful rebellion against God’s righteousness. Injustice does not surprise us because God has told us sin is real and infects all of society.

2) We understand that sin is not only “them,” but “me.” We must ask God to search our hearts daily for any unrighteousness.

3) We confess our sin and repent daily in order to be right with God. Self-righteous indignation does not please God. Humble repentance brings God pleasure and joy.

4) We rest in the loving grace of Jesus. We do not live in condemnation, but peace with God. Live in joy knowing that our sin is cleansed and we are right with God as His children!

Finally, we humbly act to confront and change any injustice we encounter. God celebrates advocacy and empathy for those crushed by injustice. Are there ways we can use our influence and resources to bring change to a hurting world? Let’s continue to pray and discuss with one another how God can use The Rock for His glory and righteousness!

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." - I John 1:9
