In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus does not command the people to pray. He assumes they already are praying. He opens Matthew 6:5 with statement, “And when you pray...” He gives instructions on how to pray. Specifically, Jesus gives instructions on what our heart attitudes should be when we pray. He helps us to understand how we shouldn’t pray - in order to be seen and heard by other people to impress them. And Jesus helps us to understand how we should pray - to our Heavenly Father in secret.
The next 2 weeks I will preach on prayer from the Sermon on the Mount. Let’s gather together in worship to sing, pray, hear God’s Word, and fellowship together. See you Sunday!
“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:6
