In our modern life people suffer from anxiety in many different ways. It seems as a society we are more anxious than ever. There are, of course, valid reasons to be anxious - world events, politics, life threatening illnesses, finances, raising children, depression, and so on. God is not unaware of our anxiety. In fact, the Bible addresses anxiety in many different ways:

“…casting all your anxieties on Him, because he cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7

“…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7

“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” - Proverbs 12:25

This Sunday we will hear a “good word” from God. Genesis 3:16-19 does not seem good on the surface because it speaks of man’s consequence for sin, which is heartbreaking and painful. But below the surface we see that God is at work. He knows us, understands us, and is at work in us to address our sins and the resulting anxiety. Deep in our anxiety, sin, and hurt, God enters in. God’s mercy, grace, and love give us hope in our deepest anxiety and pain.

This Sunday as we continue in Genesis I pray we come to grips with who we are so we can let God work fully in our hearts and lives! Come worship together and feed your soul the good news of Jesus!

"By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." - Genesis 3:19
