Jesus returns to the topic of prayer in Matthew 7:7-11. He has already taught about not being hypocrites in prayer and has given us the model prayer by teaching us the “Lord’s Prayer.” Now, Jesus wants us to understand the nature of God in hearing our prayers. The overwhelming take away is that God is good. God is a good God who gives good gifts. What I want to do this Sunday is take this passage and challenge our thinking regarding our resistance to God in prayer. I want to say the quiet things out loud regarding our resistance to prayer. I pray it will lead us to understand Jesus’s teaching here in the Sermon on the Mount!
Come on Sunday to worship. Come to hear truth about God. Come to sit with your brothers and sisters in Jesus. Come for encouragement. Come to be challenged. Come as you are to sit before Jesus.
