Beach services are not without precedent in the Bible. In fact, Jesus led two significant services on the beach. First, in Luke 5 Jesus taught the crowds from a boat just offshore. He supported His claims to be God by giving the disciples a miraculously big catch of fish. The result of this beach service was that, “they left everything and followed him.” (Luke 5:11b) The second beach service was after the resurrection. Jesus waited on the beach with a fire ready to cook another miraculous catch of fish. On the beach Jesus empowered both Peter and John for the ministry ahead of them - it changed their lives. (John 21)

This Sunday at The Rock we will gather on the beach. Will Jesus do something equally as powerful? Maybe not something that finds its way into Christian history, but something significant in our lives? I pray so!

We will gather to sing, read the word, pray, eat & fellowship. This alone gives God space to act among us! But we are also doing something greatly significant in our church. We are dedicating Dylan Wiley to the Lord. We, as a church, will celebrate God’s work in the Wiley’s family. We will call on God to help Ryan and Susan raise Dylan in the Lord. We will ask God to help us as a church support and encourage Dylan in the Lord. And we will give thanks and praise to God for the work He has done, and is doing, in the Wiley family!

Here is what you need to know about the service:

  • Come prepared with a favorite Bible verse to share and encourage others. Especially appropriate verses would be about God's Creation! Consider this service to be a "field trip" for our Genesis sermon series!

  • Parking is limited - think about Ubering, walking, biking, carpooling, etc.

  • Bring a picnic to eat after. We plan on staying for fellowship and eating together.

  • Bring a beach chair or towel to sit on.

  • Invite someone!

See you Sunday at the beach!

"Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat." - Luke 5:3
