As humans, we are in awe when God enters into our lives and commands our full attention engaging our intellect, imagination, and emotions. God captures our hearts, minds, and souls when He draws us to Himself. The result in our lives is faith in Him. This faith story is revealed to all in the act of baptism. Baptism brings out in the open which once was only in our hearts.

But baptism is not just about the one being baptized. Baptism is a community experience where three separate parties make commitments. God commits His grace to the one being baptized. The one being baptized commits his/her devotion, love, and life to God. And the community of believers commits to encourage, pray for, teach, love, bear with, rebuke, bear burdens, and to be fiercely devoted to the growth of the one being baptized. It is a beautiful community covenant of love.

This Sunday our service at The Rock will be surrounding baptisms. We will meet for the entire service at The Milewski’s home - 1426 11th St., Manhattan Beach. We will meet at our regular 4:30 time with a celebration meal to follow. We are asking everyone to contribute by bringing a side dish or dessert. Please make every effort to solve any obstacle that may come your way and be there for this important community activity!

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age" - Matthew 28:19-20

Theological Word of the Week:

In contemporary culture this term usually refers to the acceptance of the truth of something, such as facts about Christ, with no necessary element of personal commitment or dependence involved. In the New Testament this term often involves this sense of commitment.
