In the beginning God revealed to us that he created all things to be good. He looked at the work of his hands and called it “good.” The Genesis account shows us that God and humanity were in harmony with one another. Adam and Eve were “naked and unashamed” which revealed the nature of their relationship with God. There was no need to hide from God or from one another. He invited humanity to care for and cultivate God’s creation. All of us were created in his image and we were designed to live in fellowship with God, with one another, and with creation. When the enemy tempted Adam and Eve to live independently from God, they accepted the invitation. As a result, a devastating event occurred in that moment and our relationship with God and with one another was broken. Humanity and creation itself is now in desperate need of redemption.
In all of this, God remained good and promised to restore humanity and the broken world. He chose to do this through Abraham and Sarah and through His people “Israel.” Through their family line the messiah would come into the world and bring restoration to all that has been broken. God’s act of redemption was fulfilled in Jesus Christ who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and God became flesh and dwelt among us.
In Luke 4:18-19 Jesus proclaimed
18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."
Jesus announced that the Kingdom of God had arrived to the earth. He came to restore a broken humanity and a broken creation. Through his life, suffering, crucifixion, death and resurrection he has brought hope to the world. When we place our life, faith and trust in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ we are forgiven and brought back into a right relationship with God. It is through Jesus that we are reconciled with God and with one another. The moment we enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ and place our faith and trust in his redemptive work we are given the gifts of The Holy Spirit. It is The Holy Spirit of God that affirms us as children of God and it is only because of God’s Spirit that we can say; “See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” I John 3:1
The Holy Spirit empowers us with gifts. These gifts are given to heal a broken world and to make His Kingdom a visible reality. He convicts, guides, comforts and counsels us as we walk in our restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
We (the church) are God’s way of showing the world what the Love of Jesus Christ is like. We are called to do his redemptive work in this broken world because our lives have been restored by Him. We are to make His love visible by how we love God and one another. In all things we are to seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness. We choose to embody the resurrected Christ and to be a healing community in a broken world.
We believe that one day Jesus is going to return to the earth. He will judge all things because He is the only one wise enough to do so, and restore all things back to their original design. God will reclaim this world and rule forever. Relationships will be healed, the earth will be healed and all of humanity and creation will be whole again. This is what we are choosing to participate in now. We are seeking to make the Kingdom of God a reality here on the earth now as we embrace the powerful work that Jesus has done for us.
